Everyone Knows It's Wendy....

Have you ever had a friend with that quirky cynical sense of humor? One who looks at things from a perspective that you either never thought of or shied from? Have you ever spent an entire lifetime being related to a whole family of the people I just mentioned? No? Well I have. I don’t know if it was genetically programmed into our family or if it was environmentally learned. I just know it has existed my entire life.

One of my ‘kinfolk’ has made some pretty deep impressions on my life. I’m not sure she knows it but she has. I’m not sure she understands how much I looked up to her as an impressionable young girl who watched as she took a pig’s ear and turned it into a silk purse. She is creative and effusive. She is also very ethereal and spiritual but not at all in a preachy way. She and I over the years have had some pretty deep discussions and her knowledge and practicality is inspiring.
I don’t want y’all to go off thinking that this particular ‘kinfolk’, Quirky Cousin, is a saint because, well, she isn’t. She is a regular person who just imparts her wisdom on those of us who come to worship the rock on which she sits. Okay not really. This is one of the same Quirky Cousins who put me on the back of a goat which I rode in the Quirky cousin Rodeo. She is also the cousin who taught me how to make a crepe paper rose and wave like a beauty queen. She is the cousin who made me very “mod” earrings out of construction paper and paper clips.

She has been one of my strongest supporters in my endeavors to find my creative muse. I am afraid words don’t express my appreciation for her support. So to my Quirky Cousin, Wendy, Happy Birthday. Have a drink on me and bask in the knowledge that you have a Quirky Cousin who loves you very much.

I am so jealous. I am green. with envy. I have no cousins...not one...You'd think the universe could have made two mediocre cousins instead of just your one spectacular cousin so we could have shared...I'm giving you the evil green eye right now. (but I'm secretly smiling for your good luck!)

Thanks a bunch! Now I have The Association rattling in my head, asking me who's trippin down the streets of the city, smiling at everybody she sees...

BTW-- If it was Wendy who encouraged your muse, we owe her big time.

Wendy, huh?
Does she sell Burgers and serve 99 cent chili on Tuesdays? I didn't know the two of you are related.

Happy Birthday Wendy!
